January 14, 2021 at 12:00 pm - Advanced HR Leadership Webinar Series

None of us needs to be reminded of what kind of year 2020 was! The challenges we have faced are new and complicated. One thing that has remained constant, however, is our need to manage our employees’ performance, whether they are working from our law office or their office at home. As we know, proper documentation and managing our employees with empathy are crucial for a myriad of employee relations issues.  As importantly, when it comes to discrimination, retaliation and other wrongful discharge claims, legal liability often turns on the documentation.  But it’s not enough simply to document, document, document.  Poor documentation is as dangerous as no documentation. The key is not only what you say but also how and when you say it. Empathy is paramount and has never been more important than it is today. This session focuses on the legal and human resource issues implicated in disciplinary documentation, with attention also paid to managing a remote workforce.  Because these kinds of flaws are common to performance appraisals, this seminar also will examine the necessity of, and common mistakes seen in, the performance appraisal process.

January 21, 2021 at 12:00 pm - Advanced HR Leadership Webinar Series

So, 2020 . . . it was, well, something.  Certainly a year the likes of which we never have seen. And, given COVID-19, the advent of the virtual workplace, the Black Lives Matter movement and other events, the workplace has become even more complicated and, in many instances, open to claims of harassment, discrimination and retaliation.  Given the realities of 2021, combined with the effects of the #MeToo movement, we are seeing an massive proliferation in workplace harassment complaints.  Your partners and and managers are vital to helping you maintain a workplace free from harassment.  They are the key to both prevention and correction.  In addition to discussing the traps into which partners and managers fall regarding their own conduct, this webinar focuses on the affirmative responsibilities of managerial employees, addressing not only sexual but also racial, ethnic and other forms of unlawful harassment.  This course also will examine the change in the law regarding unlawful retaliation and ways to ensure compliance with the law.
